Experience the central Colorado wilderness in all of its natural beauty, complexity and wonder.

Learn about nature in the Colorado mountains

For the adventurer with an interest in nature there exists spectacular opportunity. Few places provide so many different natural communities so close to one another. Geology, climate, plants and animals work together to create this unique and varied landscape. With hiking boots on, we journey up and down National Forest trails to discover the stories behind the many species of life that live here and the conditions that make their life possible.

We take small groups of one to six on guided hikes, experiencing the nature we encounter - from the majestic coniferous forests to the miniature world of lichens and the colorful palettes of wildflowers - from beautiful and bizarre beetles to the noble moose. We offer easy, moderate, and strenuous day hikes.  You’ll need a minimum of gear. (see List of things to bring summer ). To get started, send us a list of dates you are interested in (click “Join Us For A Hike” above), and we will let you know what is available. Once a date is confirmed, we will send you a questionnaire and release form to complete, which then secures your place on the calendar. Once a trail is selected for you, we will inform you and provide a time and place to meet.  For information regarding the difficulty of the hike, see Levels of Difficulty.

Summit Nature Hikes is a not-for-profit venture. There are no fees associated with these guided hikes. Our aim is to nurture appreciation and support for nature and our National Forests. Furthermore, being a nonprofit allows us to explore much more of the National Forest Wilderness Areas than commercial business is permitted.
